The Daughter of the Regiment: Tonio (excerpt)

0:00

Tenor Lawrence Brownlee sings one of the most fiendishly difficult arias in the operatic repertoire, “Ah! mes amis,” which requires the singer to hit nine high C’s in quick succession. It is known as the “Mount Everest” of tenor arias. In the aria, Tonio proclaims his love for Marie, the title character of the opera. Was performed at the Kennedy Center by the Washington National Opera: The Daughter of the Regiment (Nov. 12-20, 2016)
