0:00
"Cielito Lindo"-- or roughly translated, "Lovely Sweet One"-- was popularized in 1882 by Mexican author Quirino Mendoza y Cortés, and is performed here by Tembembe Ensamble Continuo. Tembembe Ensamble Continuo is a group that strives to research, recreate, and disseminate the relationship between music from the Baroque period and traditional Mexican and Latin American music—breaking down the historical barrier that has been imposed between them—offering new possibilities to enjoy, understand, and interpret these musical traditions today. The group explores the similarities between the instruments and practices belonging to these musical manifestations. Presented in partnership with the Mexico Now Festival, the Mexican Cultural Institute and Multiflora Productions. Part of Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, October 12, 2017.
