Tapping for Justice

While working for the Seattle Police Department, Melba Mitchell-Ayco wanted a way to give back to the city’s youth and close the gap for underserved communities. She founded Northwest Tap Connection, a dance studio in Seattle dedicated to teaching students about issues of race and social justice, all the while dancing at a high level. Through tap dancing, Ayco aims to give young people a safe space for artistic expression while raising awareness for social issues. SUBSCRIBE: This story is a part of our Human Condition series.
